1. The start of the geothermal installation, moving in the drilling rig 2. These drilling rigs are very large so getting them into sites can be a puzzle to get them to the actual drilling location 3. The tower is raised and ready to make some holes. Who says size doesn’t matter? 4. Miss utility has been here and marked all underground lines with paint 5. The drilling process is dusty to say the least, but you can’t make an omelet without breaking a couple eggs 6. After the first well has been drilled, notice all the rock dust that has accumulated from the drilling 7. The PE geothermal piping arrives to take a trip down the bore hole 8. The well is drilled and the geothermal PE pipe is being inserted into the hole 9. The pipe is now 300ft in the ground 10. Hole drilled and PE pipe inserted. Ready for some grout 11. The grout machine arrives to seal up the holes. The grout serves a couple purposes. It seals the hole and protects the underground from any contaminates leaking down, and it provides a seamless link between the geothermal piping and the surrounding bore hole to ensure maximum energy transfer 12. Pipes installed and grouted. When dry the grouting material will be solid but still pliable, it has the consistency similar to wet cat litter. Anyone thirsty? 13. The crews always work extra hard to contain everything to the drilling areas only; minimizing cleanup. 14. Miss Utility has marked all lines but hand digging is done to locate exactly where the underground utilities are situated 15. The trenching from the house to the drilling site begins 16. All geothermal piping is joined through a fusion method. This is done with an extremely hot iron; when the PE fittings and pipes have been fused that joint is actually stronger than the original plastic. All geothermal piping carries a manufactures warranty of 50 years. Many well drillers have dug up pipe that has been in the ground for 15 – 20 years and it still looks the same as the day it was installed 17. Pipes stretch from the house out to the drilling site via a horizontal trench a minimum depth of 36 inches 18. Once the pipes reach the house there are holes drilled into the foundation to fish the pies into the house to the geothermal unit location. The holes here are sleeved to offer protection to the geothermal pipes from the jagged foundation walls 19. The Calvary arrives ready to tackle the inside unit installation 20. Old outdoor units… what an eye sore 21. Say goodbye to that dirty, stinky and most importantly expensive oil! 22. Ahhh that looks much better. The outdoor units are gone and will never return. Every component to a geothermal unit is installed on the interior of the home. This helps with the looks of the exterior and also extends the life expectancy of geothermal units because they are not subject to harsh outdoor elements 23. Geothermal units can have accessories installed like this humidifier just as easily as any standard system 24. The dream team working to get everything installed properly. Notice the flow centers mounted on the wall. These are the heart of the system, pumping the fluid through the outdoor loops to reject and absorb the earth’s energy for the units to transfer into conditioned air for the home. This is shaping up to be an awesome installation. 25. After the piping system is all connected it is flushed and filled with a water and environmentally safe anti freeze. This solution will be the transfer medium for the units 26. The drilling process is messy but after all is said and done nothing a little raking and seeding can’t fix 27. The units installed and piped in and ready to be started up. Notice all pipes are insulated to prevent any sweating from occurring. 28. We here at A Quality are huge ambassadors of the geothermal technology and are proud to be a part of every installation. We take pride in the quality of our work and treat each installation like we were installing it in our own homes!
